With Mickey Harte on BBC and Jim McGuinness on Sky over the weekend I could barely bring myself to watch that sh#tshow RTE drag out for their games. There's more knowledge and passion in the above mentioned than the entire RTE panel for the last 20 years. Bunch of elitist whingers most of them with their blinkered lazy 'analysis'. Hopefully sky buy them out of more games next year. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2020 - 16/11/2020 19:18:38 2310316 Link 4 |

Absolute pleasure watching today's Ulster Final on BBC. From fantastic expert analysis from Harte Canavan and MC Convilke to capturing all the emotion at the end...watching Rte Is a borefest with lazy analysis...Mickey Harte having the last laugh. mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1768 - 22/11/2020 22:26:59 2313542 Link 1 |
BBC's coverage has been top class. It's a real pity they only have the rights to the Ulster Championship. I had to watch the Munster Final on RTÉ and Dessie Dolan is really stealing a living. Talking about Tipp's disallowed goal, telling the viewer that it was disallowed because the scorer came into the small square from off the pitch over the replay clearly showing him that the scorer didn't come into the square from outside the pitch. Seriously bad from Dessie. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13145 - 23/11/2020 10:30:12 2313709 Link 1 |
Cusak is just as bad last year he went into a tirade comparing English rule to people not agreeing with the system Waterford and Wexford play. Last night he question why a Limerick man would referee the Galway Tipp match. I assume he was insinuating Limerick would rather play Galway then Tipp because he brought it up while talking about the red card to Barrett. Des was speechless for a second. Silly talk this is not u-12 club hurling. He should be apologizing to the ref for questioning his character and integrity. I thought the ref was poor for both sides but I think anyone who take on that job especially at inter county level is in it for the right reasons.

Coverage of GAA on RTE in both hurling and football needs a revamp. I believe that there are ex players from all counties out there who would do a better job than some of the current incumbents. The level of analysis on RTE is very poor, individuals making statements and throw away comments with no facts to back it up. Also, a lot of the analysts are only familiar with the big counties and are unable speak with any accuracy about other counties that make the breakthrough from time to time, like Tipperary in the Munster final yesterday. This is largely down to a lack of research and preparation on their behalf. If the punditry needs a revamp, I don't know what the commentary side needs, a transformation!!! The only commentator up to a decent standard is Darragh Maloney who is a good commentator. Will we see the required changes in RTE? I doubt it, they tend to maintain the status quo which is why people are switching to BBC and SKY. wicklowsupport (Wicklow) - Posts: 1179 - 23/11/2020 14:44:39 2314024 Link 0 |
Dessie seems like a nice man but he is a poor commentator. Its ridiculous hes still in his job. Youd fall asleep. Theres no passion in his voice . The pitch of his voice doesn't change if a team scores a point to widen a 10 point gap vs a goal in the dying mins to level a game

Agreed so many times when galway were a div 2 team and they were deemed good enough to get a bit of analysis that the main sunday game panelists didnt know their name outside of Comer and Conroy. I remember and instance where the guest commentator had to correct whelan on who he was talking about. They earn a very decent wage out of rte and get a lot of work off the back of being on there have the decency to learn a lads name off regardless of him not being in a div 1 team.

Liam Sheedy had already made that statement. If Tipp had won it would be Waterford playing Limerick, I presume.

Don't rate Darragh Maloney at all! ok for football but not for hurling!

The "analysis" on RTE isn't bad. It's non-existent, with the same auld fellas saying the match was rubbish, the sport is rubbish and back in my day I was manly. The comments could be scripted without watching the match. tyroneed (Tyrone) - Posts: 700 - 23/11/2020 15:46:03 2314074 Link 1 |
Sheedy was emotionally attached to the game I don't mind him brining it up Cusak is suppose to be objective. He always comes up with these ridiculous angles.

BBC championship coverage which covers Ulster Football gave outstanding analysis and coverage yesterday like it did in all the fixtures it covered this year, none of the analysts afraid to say what they think , RTE wouldnt hold a candle to their coverage.
